Licensing Requirements
Before purchasing a Children’s Python, you must hold a valid Native Animal Keeper Licence issued by Service NSW. Applications are completed online through the Service NSW website, with phone support available on 02 9585 6406 if needed. Keepers must also comply with the NSW Code of Practice for the Private Keeping of Reptiles, covering housing, welfare and record-keeping standards. As a licensed reptile dealer, Birdsville requires proof of a valid licence at the time of purchase – we’re not able to assist with licence applications or paperwork ourselves, so we’d recommend having this sorted before visiting to avoid disappointment.

What Could Happen If You Keep One Without a Licence?
NSW takes unlicensed native reptile ownership seriously, and enforcement action does happen. Under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016, a Sydney man was penalised $5,000 with an extra $3,000 awarded in legal costs for illegally importing and keeping native blue-tongue and shingleback lizards without holding the required wildlife licence. Children’s Pythons fall under the same native species licensing framework, so buying and keeping one without a valid Native Animal Keeper Licence carries the same real legal and financial risk.
