Cockatoos
Cockatoos refer to a family of bird that are found mainly in Australasian, which ranges from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Island and Australia.

Most populate cockatoos are Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, Galah, Major Mitchell, Corella, Cockatiel and Red Tail Black Cockatoo.
Cockatoos can make great pets because they are affectionate, ‘cuddly’ and love bonding with their owners. This sociability and longing for affection often results in Cockatoo owners becoming addicted to their infectious personalities.
Cons
Remember that Sulphur crested cockatoos, Majors and black, corollas cockatoos are extremely loud, Galahs are very quiet in comparison.

In the wild
In the wild Cockatoos feed on grass seeds, berries, nut, leaf buds, bulbous roots and some insect. They are often excavating grubs from under the bark of trees with their perfectly adapted strong beak and tongues.
In captivity
In captivity the use of behavioral enrichment toys is imperative to the keeping of all Cockatoos. Select toys that they can chew, foraging toys and swings to keep your bird entertained and occupied during the day, whilst you are away. Not keeping your cockatoo happy and entertained will end up with the bird developing psychological issues which is not only awful for the bird but can be awful for the owners also. Feather plucking and excessive screeching are 2 of the most common symptoms of an unhappy bird and sadly I see this too often and hope with giving people enough knowledge that these problems will become a thing of the past.
For your Cockatoos needs, Birdsville can help. We have a large selection of suitable behavioral enrichment toys, cages and feed.
