Looking for pet mice for sale in Sydney? Birdsville is located at 684 Botany Road, Alexandria NSW 2015, servicing the Eastern Suburbs and Inner South West, and we’re proud to be one of Sydney’s dedicated, quality mice breeders.

While many people cringe at the thought of pet mice, we think they’re extremely cute, and no one will ever convince us otherwise. Our mice haven’t just been bred for colour and temperament. We’ve brought in different bloodlines from around Australia to produce a stronger animal. Our mice are not inbred. They’ll still have a short lifespan like all mice, but we’re hoping to breed out some of the common health conditions found in domestic mice, since the original breeding stock comes from cancer research lines.

What You Need to Know

Mice need an enclosure of around 60cm wide x 30cm deep x 40cm high as a rough guide, ideally with multiple levels, a wheel, hides, tunnels and a salt lick. Their diet should be made up mostly of quality mouse or rat-and-mouse pellets, including our own fresh-made Rat & Mouse Gourmet mix, supplemented with fresh fruit and vegetables in moderation. For the full breakdown of housing, diet and health care, see our How to Care for Pet Mice guide.

Why You Should Get a Mouse

Mice are affectionate, low-maintenance pets that bond quickly with regular, gentle handling, and even enjoy having their face massaged once they’re settled. They’re a great option if you’re after a small pet with real personality, without the space or cost commitment of a larger animal.

Why a Mouse Might Not Be Right For You

Mice have a short lifespan of around 1.5 to 3 years, which can be tough for younger owners. They’re also most active at night, so if you’re a light sleeper with the cage in your bedroom, this is worth considering. Male mice can also fight, so housing multiple males together isn’t always straightforward.

Fancy Mouse Varieties We Have For Sale

Our fancy mice come in a wide range of colours and coat types, so there’s something to suit every taste. Some of the varieties we stock include:

Rex, which has a curly coat and even curly whiskers, giving it a fun textured look.

Satin, known for its glossy, silky sheen, thanks to hollow hair strands that catch the light differently to a standard coat.

Long-haired mice, which carry a softer, fuller coat than the standard short-haired mouse.

Himalayan, also called Siamese or Pointed, with a pale body and darker colouring on the nose, ears, feet and tail.

Manx, which has a very short or completely absent tail, similar to the cat breed of the same name.

Dumbo, easy to spot thanks to their larger, lower-set ears.

Self coloured mice, which are a single solid colour all over, such as black, white, chocolate, blue or champagne.

Agouti, the natural wild-type colouring, with each hair banded in different shades to create a warm brown or grey appearance.

Dutch, which have a coloured patch around each ear and eye plus coloured “shorts,” with the rest of the body white.

Tan, which pairs a solid or agouti body colour with a bright tan or orange belly.

Since fancy varieties depend on our current breeding cycle, availability changes regularly. Come in store or get in touch to find out what we currently have on hand.

Can I have just one pet mouse, or do I need two?

It’s fine to keep just one mouse, depending on its temperament, though having two is no more work than having one and they can live in the same cage. Male mice can fight, so this is worth considering when housing more than one together.

Does Birdsville offer package deals for new mouse owners?
