Hand raised Green Cheek Conures are available at Birdsville, 684 Botany Road, Alexandria NSW 2015, servicing the Eastern Suburbs and Inner South Sydney. Our Green Cheek babies come through every year from around October to May, during the warmer breeding months, and every bird goes home fully weaned onto seed, pellets, fruit and vegetables. We never force wean, so each baby is weaned at its own pace and leaves us healthy, tame and ready to bond with its new family. Green Cheek Conures are small, playful, affectionate parrots and one of the quietest parrots you can keep, which makes them a great choice for Sydney homes and apartments.

What You Need to Know Before Buying a Green Cheek Conure

A Green Cheek Conure needs a roomy cage, a varied diet of seed, pellets and fresh fruit and vegetables, clean water every day, and daily handling and attention.

Cage: the bigger the better, never smaller than about 45 x 45cm, with room for toys, perches and a swing.
Diet: seed and pellets in separate bowls, plus fresh fruit and vegetables. Our top seed pick is Birdsville Blends Tropical Small Parrot (https://petsville.com.au/products/birdsville-blends-tropical-small-parrot-500g), made fresh in store.
Water: fresh, clean water every day, with a regular vitamin boost added.
Handling: Green Cheeks love attention and tame easily when they’re handled gently every day.

Why You Should Get a Green Cheek Conure

Green Cheek Conures are one of the best small parrots for families, because they’re affectionate, playful, quiet for a parrot and easy to train.

They love pats and attention and bond closely with their owners. They’re full of personality, love to play and quickly learn tricks. Many people consider the Green Cheek one of the quietest parrots you can keep, so they suit homes where a cockatoo or large parrot would be too loud. They can learn to talk, though it takes patience and training, and their small size makes them easier to house than larger parrots. With good care, a Green Cheek can live 25 to 30 years.

Why a Green Cheek Conure Might Not Be Right for You

A Green Cheek Conure needs daily time and attention for decades, so it isn’t the right pet for everyone.

They can live 25 to 30 years, so you’re taking on a long commitment. They need time out of the cage and interaction every day, and a bored Green Cheek can become nippy. Their flight calls can be high pitched, even if they’re quiet for a parrot. They also need ongoing care, including worming, mite and lice treatment, fresh food every day and new toys. If you’re away often, think about who will care for your bird, or use our bird boarding (https://birdsville.net.au/parrot-bird-boarding-sydney/).

Turquoise: blue green and green body feathers with a greyish breast and tail.

The colours we have depend on the breeding season, so call us or follow our social media to see what’s coming through.

Males often have a slightly larger, flatter head than females, but this isn’t a reliable guide. Both sexes make wonderful pets. Our Green Cheeks are not DNA sexed before sale, so we can’t offer a refund, credit or exchange based on your bird’s sex. All our animals come with a health guarantee.

When Are Green Cheek Conures Available?

Green Cheek Conures are available at Birdsville every year from around October to May, as they’re seasonal breeders and don’t breed in the colder months.

We’re regularly in stock through the warmer months, with availability depending on each breeding season. If you’d like to lock in a baby, we can take a deposit to secure one from the next clutch. Ask us about special colours such as pineapple or turquoise. We also rehome Green Cheeks and other parrots through Sydney Pet Bird Rescue (https://birdsville.net.au/re-homing-parrot-adoption/), so ask our team if you’d like to adopt.

Green Cheek Conure Setup Discounts

Buying your green cheek conure together with its full setup saves you more than buying each item on its own. Our cages, Birdsville Blends seed, pellets, toys and supplements are already well priced, but bundled with your conure they come with a bigger package discount. We also run regular bird and cage specials, so ask our team what’s on, and we’ll put the whole setup together for you in-store and show you how to feed your new bird. You can browse the full range online at Petsville (https://petsville.com.au/) first, but since your Green Cheek is collected in-store, buying the setup at the same time means no freight to pay on top of your package discount.

Our Birdsville Blends are bagged fresh on site from quality ingredients, and our high turnover means nothing sits on a shelf for long. Unlike many chain store mixes, which are bulked out with low quality grain and filler seed that affects the health and vitality of your bird, our seed is the real thing, and buying direct from the people who mix it means better value. We also offer wing and nail clipping (https://birdsville.net.au/wing-clipping-nail-clipping/).

Taking Your New Green Cheek Conure Home

Take your new Green Cheek home in a secure carry cage, go straight home, and keep it out of the heat and cold on the way.

Birdsville sells carry cages in store, and the Deluxe Parrot Carrier (https://petsville.com.au/products/bono-fido-deluxe-parrot-carrier) is available on Petsville. Never leave your bird in a parked car. Your new baby will be about 8 to 9 weeks old and only just weaned, so have its cage set up and ready before you collect it. Our team will run through feeding, worming and settling in with you on the day, and our Green Cheek care guide ([ADD GREEN CHEEK CARE PAGE LINK]) has everything in one place.

A Tip From Our Staff

For the first 2 weeks at home, sprinkle some seed and pellets on the cage floor as well as in the bowls. A newly weaned Green Cheek is still learning to eat from feeders, and food on the floor makes sure it never goes hungry while it settles in.

How Does Sydney’s Weather Affect Green Cheek Conures?

Green Cheeks come from warm parts of South America, so they enjoy Sydney’s summers but need shade, water and protection from cold winter draughts.

Babies come through from October, so spring is the best time to bring one home. On hot summer days, keep the cage out of direct sun and offer a shallow bath. In winter, keep the cage away from draughts and cover it at night. Our care guide explains how to keep an indoor Green Cheek healthy through the cooler months.

Green Cheek Conure for Sale Frequently Asked Questions

When can I buy a Green Cheek Conure in Sydney?

Green Cheek Conures are available at Birdsville in Alexandria every year from around October to May. They’re seasonal breeders and don’t breed in winter. If you’d like a baby, we can take a deposit to secure one from the next clutch. Follow our Facebook, Instagram and TikTok to see babies as they come through.

Are Green Cheek Conures good pets?

Yes, Green Cheek Conures make wonderful pets. They’re affectionate, playful and love attention, and they’re easy to train when socialised young. They’re also one of the quietest parrots you can keep. They do need daily time, a varied diet, toys and handling, and they can live 25 to 30 years with good care.

Are Green Cheek Conures loud?

Green Cheek Conures are quiet for a parrot, which is one of the main reasons people choose them. Their flight call can be high pitched, but they’re much quieter than larger conures, cockatoos and most other parrots. A bird with plenty of toys and attention is usually calmer and quieter.

How long do Green Cheek Conures live?

Green Cheek Conures can live 25 to 30 years with good care. A varied diet of seed, pellets and fresh food, a roomy cage, regular worming and daily attention all help them live a long, healthy life. A poor diet is one of the main reasons pet Green Cheeks die younger.

Can Green Cheek Conures talk?

Green Cheek Conures can learn to say some words, but it takes patience and regular training. They usually have a small vocabulary and a gravelly little voice. They’re better known for their playful personality and love of tricks than for talking, so choose one for its company rather than its speech.

How do you tell if a Green Cheek Conure is male or female?

Green Cheek Conures are monomorphic, so males and females look the same. Males often have a slightly larger, flatter head, but this isn’t reliable. DNA testing is the most accurate and cost effective way to sex your bird. Both males and females make wonderful pets.
