Rosellas for Sale

Rosellas are a beautiful species of bird, some species of rosellas do require a licence from national parks and wildlife services. This is easy to acquire, it ensures that your particular bird has not been trapped illegally.

There are 12 species of Rosellas including Apelarde rosella, blue cheeked rosella, crimson rosella, eastern rosella, golden manthed rosella, green rosella, northern rosella, pale headed rosella, red backed western rosella, tasmanian eastern rosella, yellow rosella, and western rosella.

Rosella’s are native to Australia, they are found in every state including Tasmania. Like any bird the more space the better as these are active birds, they should have toys to play with and branches to chew to keep them happy and exercise their beak. A typical Parrot aviary is at about 10 feet 13 is preferrable.

If your Rosella is hand raised then it is adviseable to keep him in a large cage with hanging toys and a swing to exercise his legs, as well as native branches.

Hand raised rosella’s make wonderful companions. In NSW hand raised rosellas are generally only available around December as they usually prepare to nest in August/September.

Rosella’s main diet is your basic parrot seed mix – nuts, fruit and vegetables. they will even feed on nectars if supplied with some local bottle brush flowers. Like mny Australian parrots in the wild they feed on insects and grubs, so supplying them with some tasty mealworms will give them a good ource of protein. Corn on the cob is also a favourite!

Rosellas have to be at least a year and a half old beofre they are ready to breed. In the wild they nest in hollow logs so in captivity it is important to suopply them with a suitable nesting box or hollow log with parrot nesting material at the base – this is essential for your birds to successfully raise there brood. The best place to put the nesting site is as high as possible this makes them feel safe and encourages them to breed.
